Total hip replacements (THR's) can result from either wear and tear from a lifetime of activity, or disease, and injury. In order to prolong the life of this articifial joint, patients who have undergone this surgical procedure must have very specific discharge education.
Your task is to select a member of the orthopedic team. They are the nurse, the patient, the case manager, and the physical therapist. Based on your chosen role, prepare discharge information and expectations for a THR case study patient. Collaboration of your expertise with the other team members is crucial to complete the project. To enhance the discharge plan of care, the video/DVD and booklet will be viewed by future THR patients and/or their caregivers on the Joint Replacement Unit.
This task is in compliance with NLNAC & CCNE Curriculum Standards
