Sense and Meaning

"Information is more likely to get stored if it has sense and meaning." (Sousa, 2006, p.48).
- The roles that are identified for the students provide sense and meaning by drawing upon prior knowledge obtained in their lectures and corresponding orthopedic clinical rotation.
- The roles of the patient, the nurse, the physical therapist, and the social worker each conjoin their facts and obtain a greater understanding of the non-nursing components associated with the care of a THR patient.
"Past experiences always influence new learning." (Sousa, 2006, p.50).
- Students may know a relative or family friend who has had this surgery.
- The experience of researching and role playing, sharing information, and presenting the final project will provide retention of knowledge that can be recalled in their future nursing practice.
