The four of you will also work as a group. As a group you will present a case study to the healthcare team on one of the kidney transplant patients you have encountered during your training on the Transplant Unit.
· You will gather the necessary information from the medical record,
textbooks, internet.
· Student #1/Patient will be responsible for the assessment which
includes the history and physical, past medical history, social history,
and physical exam.
· Student # 2/Nurse will be responsible for identifying problems from
the assessment data. For example: metabolic imbalances, new onset
diabetes, lifelong immunosuppressive therapy, psychosocial and
financial needs
· Student # 3/Transplant Coordinator will outline the interventions for
each of the problems identified.
· Student # 4/MD will present the evaluations of the interventions and
the final outcomes.
· You will be given two mornings during your orientation to research
material for your case study presentation.
· Two afternoons will be spent working individually on your individual
roles.
· One hour will be given on the third class day to rehearse the case
presentation as a group.
· Presentation will be given at 11 am during physician grand rounds on
the transplant unit.
· Each student will be given a maximum of 10 minutes to present their
part of the case study.
· Each student will submit a 4 page paper on Transplantation as an
Option for Chronic Kidney Disease with an emphasis on the role they
assumed.
· Paper will be due on the last day of class for the week followed by
completion of a written exam
