Sexual Transmitted Diseases remain a major public challenge in the United States. While substantial progress has been made in diagnosing, preventing and treating sexual transmitted diseases, certain disease statistics still continue to climb.
The nursing students will be divided into three groups. Their overall goal is to educate their patients during their Obstrectical, (OB) clinical rotation about the facts of sexual transmitted diseases targeting HIV, HPV, CHLAMYDIA and GONORRHEA.
On the first day of OB clinical rotations everyone will be divided into one of three groups. There are nine students in each of the clinical rotation groups. Each clinical group will again be divided into three sub-groups and will portray the role of a Detective, a Nurse or a Counselor. Each group member will choose a number from #1-3. These numbers will represent the role you will soon assume!
As a group the students will present on the following:
- A power point presentation your group's Sexual Transmitted Disease
- Create a poster and pamphletes (flyers) providing information on the diagnosis, causes and statistics of the targeted STD
- Design a brochure on treatment/prevention methods and include resources on the targeted STD
