Location, Location, Location!
You've completed various activites, and now it is time for you to plan your vacation. You and your partner must identify three places you would like to go to on vacation. One must be in the Northwest Hemisphere, one must be in the Southeast Hemisphere and the last one is your choice.
Procedure:
- Research your possible vacation sites on a map -- you may use either an atlas or a globe.
- Next find the exact latitude and longitude of your site. You will need to use one of the web sites to pinpoint it more accurately. WorldAtlas.com would be helpful. Once you have the exact latitude and longitude of your three dream vacation locations, make up index cards with the coordinates written on them and two clues. One clue should be the weather and the other may be an indication of time or seasonal differences.
- Once you have the coordinates, reseach the climate, time changes and other interesting facts that you and your partner consider important for a vacation. Will it offer you the kind of weather you like? Are there interesting places to visit? You must decide and defend why you would like to go there.
- We will mix up the cards and pass them out to everyone in the class, making sure that no one gets their own cards. Your job will then be to identify the hemisphere, and location of your card -- the name of the city, state or country.
- After everyone has found the identified the location we will vote on the three most interesting dream vacation locations.
