 Syllabus & Course Description

Expectations

This is a college level course, and you will be held to high expectations.

Come to class!  It is essential that you be present in order to keep up with the pace of the course.

Read your textbook regularly, before coming to class.  Review your class notes regularly.  Work on the homework packet in small pieces.  Do not try to learn the entire unit the night before the test.

Keep a dedicated "Biology" notebook.  Either a 3-ring binder with loose leaf paper or a multi-subject spiral notebook.

In order to cover the bulk of the material before the AP Exam, we will need to stay for double lectures weekly.

Assignments

Homework - packets are distributed at the beginning of each unit.  They will be reviewed the day before the Quiz and the day before the Test.  Most will be checked for completion, however some will be checked for correctness.

Practice Essays - each marking period you will be assigned AP-style practice essays.  You will be given plenty of time to complete them.  They will count as a quiz or a lab grade.

Labs - the AP curriculum includes 12 labs, most of which we will complete in class.  Each lab requires a formal lab write-up, which will be due one week after the lab has been completed.

Quizzes - there will be at least one quiz per unit.  Quizzes may be comprised of multiple choice, fill-in, or short answer questions.  Now and then there may be a Pop Quiz to check if you have been reading the text book.  Pop Quizzes will only be 5-10 questions long and the material will be taken directly from the textbook.

Tests - at the end of each unit there will be a test.  Tests will include AP-style multiple choice questions.  Most tests will include an AP-style essay.  The questions will be based on class notes and the textbook.

Extras

I am always available for extra help.  I can stay after school any day, just let me know to expect you.  We share our lunch period, so if you are willing to give up yours, then I am willing to give up mine.

Make sure your work is completed and turned in on time.
Late work will not be accepted.
