As you may know, I am the research science teacher at The Science Academy at Morristown High School, in Morristown New Jersey. I have been a teacher in Morristown for the past five years. During this time I have designed research experiments and studies for the freshman, sophomore, and junior humanities classes to link these course curriculums to science. I have recently designed a new study for my students in Research Science I Honors to be a part of during the 2007-2008 school year.

My latest research study is A scientific investigation of Iceland through the eyes of a poet. The objective of this project is for students and educators to partake in a collaborative research investigation of Iceland, where poetry is used as a means of describing the environment of Iceland by incorporating quantitative and qualitative data.  This project is intended to formulate a connection between literature and science and attempt to prove that poetry that incorporates quantitative and qualitative data can increase ones understanding of scientific information.

The reason that I designed a project such as this is because I travel around the world in attempt to bring science from all seven continents to my students. Sometimes I create presentations, other times I bring back specimens, and now my latest project has the potential to lead students into careers that incorporate the skills of writing and conducting scientific research.

I want to share this new research study with fellow research students, educators, and community members to provide you with an overview of the research that will be conducted.
