This certificate will be given to student investigators once they complete the Research Science I Honors 2007 Group Study by the end of the semester.

In order to earn this certificate the following criteria must be achieved:

  •  In part one, the student investigator must have participated in a one day workshop that discussed the five scientific perspectives of Iceland, introduced the scientific instruments that were used on the expedition, and the poetic forms that are used by science poets.
     
  • In part two, the student investigator must have completed each of the associated peripherals on the "Five Scientific Perspectives of Iceland Website."
     
  • In part three, the student investigator must have organized, analyzed, and interpreted at least one type of quantitative data that was collected on the expedition to Iceland by the research team in the summer of 2007.
     
  • In part four, the student researcher must have written a minimum of two scientific poems about the environment of Iceland utilizing the analyzed and interpreted data from primary and secondary sources provided by the research team.
     
  • In part five, the student researcher must have written an essay that formulates a connection between literature and science by explaining how poetry was used as a means of expanding one's understanding of scientific data.
