WHY PRACTICE YOGA?
by Stacy Chulli
|
|
Learn to practice yoga.
Yoga is not restricted to the mat; it is a way
of life. Regular practice restores the nervous
system, dismantles chronic tension and erases
chronic aches and pains. The practice of yoga
cultivates conscious awareness, harmony of
opposing energies, balance, flexibility,
strength and endurance. These principles are
principles of life. Learn to bring these
qualities into your life. |
|
Taught with an emphasis on
correct alignment, the body is the vehicle from
which we can develop an intelligence that allows
us to go deeper and become aware of the more
subtle layers of ourselves. We sharpen our
concentration, remain in the present, and
transform. |
|
Please join us as we learn
to focus inward, be present in our bodies,
observe the stillness, breathe, and recharge. |

Stacy Chiulli is a certified
Iyengar instructor.
Iyengar yoga is taught with an emphasis on
correct alignment, using the body as the vehicle
from which we can develop self-awareness and
consciousness.
The various
asanas (postures) have different effects on
the body. The basic postures will build strength
and stamina, and improve muscular tone,
flexibility, and alignment. Practicing the
postures reduces tiredness and soothes the
nerves.
It also trains and disciplines the mind so that
concentration is improved. |

WHAT IS AYURVEDA? |
|
AYURVEDA is comprised of
two words. Ayur means Life, and Veda
means Knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda deals
with how to live a healthy, balanced life. It is
a traditional, holistic system of health science
from India, which has been practiced for over
5,000 years. Ayurveda seeks to restore the
natural balance and state of health to mind,
body & soul. Through its body-mind-soul
approach, Ayurveda has been found to
significantly improve several chronic health
conditions. |
|
Ayurveda focuses on living in tune with nature.
Its principles are universal. By connecting
mind, body and soul, Ayurveda strives to improve
harmony and happiness in an individual. Ayurveda
emphasizes the maintenance of good health
through a balanced daily routine (Dinacharya),
seasonal regime (Ritucharya), and a
wholesome diet. Ayurveda considers every
individual to be unique because of their unique
mind-body-soul constitution (Prakriti). |
|
Ayurvedic medicine is not a "One size
fits all" approach to healing. Everyone is
different, and at Essence of Self your unique
expression in physical form is honored. |

WHAT IS YOGA? |
|
Yoga means to unite. You are uniting your
breath with the movement of your body, as well
as uniting your mind, body and spirit. There is
no force, no struggle, no place to get to, just
surrendering into the experience, for whatever
it may be. |
|
The practice of yoga brings forth an awareness
of compassion, and non-judgment. This guided
experience will allow you to be your own yoga
teacher, where you are free to make any
modifications that serve you best. |
|
Each yoga posture brings its own gifts of
energy. At the end of each yoga class, we enter
into a deep relaxation, which is the time that
we take to integrate the energies of the
postures that we have experienced; integrating
them into the cells of our body to enhance our
health, and into the self, which connects us to
the divineness of who we really are. |
