Goals and Objectives  

Goals

Website goal is to improve student’s success in Kindergarten and to develop or enhance academic skills needed for Kindergarten. This interactive website is geared toward Kindergarten students. Students will  complete interactive activities, with parental guidance, to help reach a better understanding of letter recognition, letter-sound (phonemic awareness) recognition, number recognition and number sense. 

Objectives: 

Students will:    
1. be able to recognize letters of the alphabet
2. be able to recognize and understand letter-sound relationships (phonemic awareness)
3. be able to recognize numbers 1-10
4. be able to understand number sense and number value
5. be able to develop and stimulate sensory stimuli to help acquire knowledge
6. be able to begin to develop or enhance technology skills needed for Kindergarten
7. be able to begin to follow prompts and execute simple commands using the computer

 Procedures
 

1. Students are assessed in September to gain a better understanding of each students' mastery of Language Arts skills (alphabet recognition, letter-sound awareness) and Mathematic Skills (number recognition, number sense). As a result of the assessments, students will be placed in one of the three groups according to their level of understanding of the skills presented
2. Students' activities, within website, are geared to their levels of understanding.

3. Parents are  informed of upcoming student assessments during "Back To School Night"   At this time, parents are introduced to the website using a Smartboard for demonstration purposes. A brief demonstration is presented to parents and an explanation of how students should complete the activities at home, with their guidance. Parents who may not have access to a computer will be guided to use the computers at our local public library.
4. Once the assessments are completed, parents are sent a letter informing them of the specific sites the students are required to complete at home. Parents will assess their student's progress using the Student Rubric within the website.
 
5. After the students have completed the specific assigned activities,  the teacher will again assess the students using the sites and Student Rubric included in the website. Depending upon the results of the Rubric given by the teacher, parents may be asked to review the websites or may be assigned another specific group of activities on the Parent Resource Page, within the website, to complete with their child.
6. Each student will be given a certificate for completing home and school activities.
