Save the Rainforest

***Remember that nearly half of all plants and animals on earth live in the rainforest, and less than sixty percent of the earth's service is rainforest. We rely on rainforest for a lot, we need them to produce oxygen for us to breath. Rainforest make forty per cent of the Earth's oxygen. It is very important to conserve to protect the rainforests!***

Here are some things we can do to help...

Reduce how much paper or wood you use!

Eat less beef!

  • Use less paper - most paper comes form trees
  • Use and buy recycled products
  • Use "tree-free" paper - this paper is made without trees
  • Recycling is important
  • Ask your family not to buy things made from wood that comes from the rainforest (mahogany, teak, rosewood, zebrawood)

  • 90% of cleared rainforests land is to make space to raise cattle
  • For every hamburger 55 feet of forest must be chopped down
  • Avoid fast food places - most rainforest beef is sold in fast food chains

Reduce oil consumption!

  • Use less plastic

  • Use less gas - (If you can walk somewhere, do it!)

  • Ask your parents to carpool

  • Ask your parents to drive slower - this uses less gas

  • Have your parent check the air in their tires - low air uses more gas

  • Use glass instead of plastic when possible

  • Reuse plastic items when possible
