Ms. Dreher's REAL WORLD MATH |
|
![]() |
Take every opportunity to point out math
in all situations as you spend time with your child.
Driving in the car can be a very math-meaningful time as you "Make 24". Click here for more information on exciting game and tournaments. Discuss fractions when you are in the kitchen. Ask your child to double or triple a recipe. Flashcards motivate the learner. Grab a stack of index cards and make your own or print them out online here. Review missed problems on quizzes and tests. Change the numbers to reinforce operations being addressed. Use math terminology as much as possible. Students will see these words on standardized tests. Help take the "nasty" out of word problems. Drawing a picture can help an intimidating bunch of words become approachable. The more comfortable you and your child feel about word problems, the easier they will become.
