This is the first unit of the “Intro to chemistry” part of the course. The topic has meaning to students, since matter is all around them, the stuff we are all made of. They are using all their senses to describe it- can see it, smell it, hear it, touch it,. Students have past experience and familiarity with sorting and classifying matter in school,  this will help the new learning to take place. My goal is to make new scientific sense, clarity and accuracy, of the concept of matter. This might require the difficult task of addressing misconceptions and replacing them with new knowledge.
