Introduction
Masks are
used to disguise, conceal, transform and protect. They are
often worn at carnivals, parties, parades, rituals and
performances and were not always considered art. There is
evidence of masking as far back as 30,000 years ago and
masks are used in almost all cultures worldwide.
This project is designed to have students explore masks and
begin to understand their cultural significance. The
students will research masks from various cultures, record
information about them, locate them on the Mappler Website
and write about them.
