Goals and Objectives

Students will...

  • be introduced to tangrams and explore their characteristics.

  • know the basic geometric shapes that make up the tangram puzzle.

  • make observations on the pieces formed and compare how they are related to each other.

  • explore patterns and shapes with the tangram pieces.

  • recognize and apply flips (reflections), slides (translations), and turns (rotations).

  • use spatial memory and spatial visualization skills.

Students will also...

  • carry out the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, postwriting.

  • create a three to five paragraph story.

Results

As a result of completing the Web-Quest, the students will have produced the following:

  • completion of the Tangram Worksheet

  • completion of two geometry assessments with a printout of scores

  • a figure or picture made from the seven tangram pieces

  • a 3-5 paragraph original story about their tangram picture
