What is a polygon?

A polygon is a closed figure with line segments for sides that meet at vertices.

There are many different types of polygons, which we will investigate further.  Some are listed below.

Triangle A polygon with 3 sides  triangle
Quadrilateral

A polygon with 4 sides quadrilateral
Pentagon A polygon with 5 sides pentagon
Hexagon A polygon with 6 sides hexagon
Heptagon A polygon with 7 sides

Octagon A polygon with 8 sides

Decagon A polygon with 10 sides

Let's look at quadrilaterals more closely.
There are some special quadrilaterals you need to investigate.

Trapezoid A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.
