What is a polygon?

A polygon is a closed figure with line segments for sides that meet at vertices.

There are many different types of polygons, which we will investigate further.  Some are listed below.

Triangle	A polygon with 3 sides
Quadrilateral (Find out more)	A polygon with 4 sides
Pentagon	A polygon with 5 sides
Hexagon	A polygon with 6 sides
Heptagon	A polygon with 7 sides
Octagon	A polygon with 8 sides
Nonagon	A polygon with 9 sides
Decagon	A polygon with 10 sides

Let's look at quadrilaterals more closely.
There are some special quadrilaterals you need to investigate.

Trapezoid	A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.
Parallelogram	A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.
Rectangle	A parallelogram with four right angles.
Rhombus	A parallelogram with four equal sides.
Square	A parallelogram with four right angles AND four equal sides.
