Perimeter is the distance around a figure. To find perimeter, add the lengths of all of the sides.
Example 1:
Find the perimeter of the following
rectangle.
P = 8 + 8 + 3 + 3
Example 2:
For a circle, the distance around is the
circumference. C = 2(pi)(radius) or C = pi(diameter)
Since d = 6 in,
use C = pi(diameter) Example 3: You can find the perimeter of any polygon, no matter how many sides it has. All you have to do is add up all of the sides. Find the perimeter of a hexagon with sides of the following lengths: 4 in, 2 in, 5 in, 8 in, 6 in, and 7 in 4 + 2 + 5 + 8 + 6 + 7 = 32 inches --> The perimeter is 32 inches **Remember Perimeter is the distance around a figure. Add up all of the side lengths to find it! After you have tried the examples above and have an understanding of perimeter, you are ready to practice!
