Planet Walon is out of control! Your group will create a law that solves one of the problems Planet Walon is dealing with. Choose one of the following problems to solve: |
1. Some of our leaders have been serving Planet Walon since before you were born. Most Walonites want a change, but what can we do if the leaders do not want to stop leading? |
2. Many school age Walonites have not been attending the Galactic Academy every day. Instead, they stay at home and play space simulation games all day. What can we do to make sure they go to the Academy and learn the necessary skills of being a citizen of Planet Walon? |
3. There are many parts from our old computers and spaceships that are being sent to the trash instead of being reused to make newer models. The trash containment system is already over stuffed. How can we solve this problem? |
4. Now that we have access to super-charge fuel our spaceships are flying faster and faster each day. In areas where young Walonites go to the Academies and in places where many of us live, this can be very dangerous. We don’t want to ban use of this new fuel, but what other option do we have? |
5. Our market places have recently reported that the amount of stolen goods has increased rapidly over the past few months. The market owners are demanding that something be done to help decrease this problem. What could our government do to reduce the crime? |
6. When we are in need of new local leaders to take over, there are often arguments among our fellow Walonites. They can’t all agree on just one Walonite to lead. How can we find a way to make everyone happy? |
7. The teen Walonites are becoming too bold. They love to listen to the Blue Man Group all day and all night long. Unfortunately, the elder Walonites are having trouble sleeping and their noise sensors are throbbing. The parents of these teenagers have run out of reasons to ask them to lower their music or play it less often. What are we to do for some peace and quiet around here? |
| You can't pass your law if you don't have a government! You must teach your fellow Walonites how to create a government modeled after the United States. Each of your teammates will study a different branch of the US Government: The Legislative Branch, The Executive Branch, and The Judicial Branch. |
| Each group member must complete their own research organizer while researching their branch of government. |
| Find everything you need to know about your branch of government and making new laws by following the links below: |
Now you must help Planet Walon set up a government and pass your proposed law. Your team must choose how to present your plan to your fellow Walonites. In order for your presentation to be successful, your team must follow the project rubric. Here are some suggestions for how to present your project (choose only one): |
