Target Audience
This webquest is designed for first grade science. 

Webquest Timeline
In first grade science is taught during two 30 minute periods per week.  The students will have two weeks to gather information (teacher assistance is required).  They will have three more class periods to complete their projects and presentations.

Goals and Objectives

The goal of this project is to develop a basic understanding of the four seasons of the year and their effects on the world we live in.

Students will be able to:

  • describe each of the four seasons

  • determine the appropriate clothing for each season

  • compare and contrast seasons

  •  recall seasonal changes where they live

  • work cooperatively in groups

  • follow directions

  • research on the computer

  • navigate the internet with assistance

Core Curriculum Content Standards

Science

STANDARD 5.1 (Scientific Processes) All students will develop problem-solving, decision-making and inquiry skills, reflected by formulating usable questions and hypotheses, planning experiments, conducting systematic observations, interpreting and analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and communicating results.
STANDARD 5.4 (Nature and Process of Technology) All students will understand the interrelationships between science and technology and develop a conceptual understanding of the nature and process of technology.
STANDARD 5.8 (Earth Science) All students will gain an understanding of the structure, dynamics, and geophysical systems of the earth.
STANDARD 5.10 (Environmental Studies) All students will develop an understanding of the environment as a system of interdependent components affected by human activity and natural phenomena.
 

Technology

STANDARD 8.1 (Computer and information literacy) All students will use computer applications to gather and organize information and to solve problems.
STANDARD 8.2 (Technology Education) All students will develop an understanding of the nature and impact of technology, engineering, technological design, and the designed world as they relate to the individual, society, and the environment.

Language Arts Literacy

STANDARD 3.1 (Reading) All students will understand and apply the knowledge of sounds, letters, and words in written english to become independent and fluent readers, and will read a variety of materials and texts with fluency and comprehension.
STANDARD 3.2 (Writing) All students will write in clear, concise, organized language that varies in content and form for different audiences and purposes.
STANDARD 3.3 (Speaking) All students will speak in clear, concise, organized language that varies in content and form for different audiences and purposes.
STANDARD 3.4 (Listening) All students will listen actively to information from a variety of sources in a variety of situations.
STANDARD 3.5 (Viewing and media literacy) All students will access, view, evaluate, and respond to print, nonprint, and electronic texts and resources.

  • Concrete Random - like to solve problems, work independently and loves technology

  • Concrete Sequential - very creative, follows directions easily, will love to present final project

  • Abstract Random - will love to gather and organize information with their group

  • Abstract Sequential - love to be organized and will love helping their group stay on task

Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences

  • Linguistic - will enjoy reading and writing about the seasons

  • Logical-Mathematical - graphing favorite seasons will be an ideal activity for these learners

  • Spatial - will love to view websites/videos and create a picture box

  • Bodily Kinesthetic - will enjoy physical parts of the project

  • Musical - singing a song about the seasons would be right up their alley

  • Interpersonal - will love working with a group

  • Intrapersonal - will enjoy completing a Venn diagram independently
