Introduction

Ms. Grier is a seventh grade science teacher at Christopher Columbus Middle School. She has just received an important letter from her Uncle Mark, who is a curator at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. He is in charge of the dinosaur exhibit at the museum. The letter informs Ms Grier that in the course of refurbishing the dinosaur display, so it could be made more accessible to the children, he discovered five very large boxes in the dark, dreary, dungeon of the museum. These tattered boxes were completely covered in dust and spider webs. They were extremely heavy and with very strange markings and numbers on them. Uncle Mark and his three assistants dragged these dilapidated boxes to the laboratory. When they carefully opened each box, they were completely surprised and very puzzled about the contents inside. Each box contained a gigantic, fossilized dinosaur print wrapped in an old white cotton cloth. The group was scratching their heads and wondering about the dinoprints. They were asking each other: What creature was responsible for each of these impressions and why were they still in the boxes and not on display?
