Process
Each team will be assigned a fossilized dinoprint. You will begin your adventure be navigating the website, An Overview of Dinosaur Tracking. From that point on, you will seek the answers to the important questions which will aid in correctly identifying the fossil.
When you have finally completed your research and are comfortable with your final answer, the team will reassemble at the museum. Once there, each team will first prepare a graphic organizer of their dinosaurs using Inspiration in order to plan for a five slide PowerPoint presentation, which will be presented to the Museum of Natural History's Board of Directors. The evidence put forth in the presentation must convince the board that the newly found dinoprint be included in the new dinosaur display.
Then your group will create and name your own dinosaur utilizing all information learned in the WebQuest. You must analyze your research and explain the process used in naming and creating your dinosaur. You can choose one of the following ways to present the dinosaur you created:
§ Poster
§ 3D model
§ Paint/PowerPoint
But first, before you can leave on your new adventure into the world of the dinosaurs, each group will have to brush up on their dinosaur knowledge by answering the following group questions. Upon completion of the group questions, each member of the group will choose their next job.
Remember to keep an online journal, which will be kept in Word, to record all of your information, especially pertaining to the theories of why the dinosaurs became extinct. You can use the Dinosaur Investigation Sheet along with the graphic organizer, which can be accessed below. At the conclusion of the project, there will be a class discussion and each group will present a theory that they believe led to the extinction of the dinosaur.
Group questions:
1. In what age did the first dinosaurs appear on Earth?
2. Did dinosaurs and humans live at the same time?
3. Did all the dinosaurs live together and at the same time? During what periods did they live?
4. How are dinosaurs named? Explain the three methods used?
5. What was the biggest dinosaur? What was the smallest?
6. Did dinosaurs communicate? If so, explain the methods they used?
7. During what age did dinosaurs become extinct? Are dinosaurs really extinct? Explain?
8. Why did the dinosaurs die out? Which theory of extinction do you believe caused them to die out?
Now that you have completed your initial research of the dinosaurs, it is now time to choose the job that will help you solve the mystery of the dinoprints. The three jobs that you will pick from are:
Paleontologist Geologist Ichnologist

Each of these jobs, upon completion, will be included in the overall five slide PowerPoint presentation to be presented.
