File for your unemployment benefits immediately.  Do not wait.  You will be able to do this on line or by phone.  Always check with the unemployment services or your One Stop Career Center counselors for details on your specific circumstances.

Review the programs below to see what may be of interest...

  • NJ Training Programs available if your job skills need updating.  You may qualify for a grant or tuition waiver.
  • Additional Benefits during Training NJ's WDP Program pays Additional Benefits during Training to help people complete approved training programs that last past the regular unemployment benefit period. You must meet with a counselor who must approve these benefits before you enroll in a training program. Contact your local One Stop Career Center for an appointment.
  • Tuition-Free College for the UnemployedAll community and public colleges and universities allow unemployed people to attend classes for free, as long as space is available.  Eligibility information & Waiver Certifications are issued by the One Stop Career Center  counselors no more than 30 days prior to late registration.
  • The SEA program assists qualified unemployed individuals who are seriously interested in setting up a business in NJ and becoming self-employed.

NJ Guide to Training and Education Sources

The Bergen County Workforce Investment Board offers free training sessions.  Check with your county WIB (No services at Mercer, Middlesex.)
