Sir Isaac Newton, born in 1642, made some of the most important discoveries which formed the physical sciences we know today as Physics. His major works were published in 1687 in Principia and encompass the subjects of light, optics, planetary motion, and mechanics. He came up with and developed three laws of motion that apply to everything in the universe with matter.
