Proposal

In order to create the desired layout, the following items will need to be purchased:

	22 Personal Computers:  This will allow for the entire class of students to have access to the computers at the same time.  These Dell Inspiron 530s (XP) will include adequate drives and memory capacity to meet the  students' and teachers' needs.
	1 Smart Board/LCD projector:  This will allow the teacher to project his/her computer screen onto the display board to help the students to see the information more clearly.  The Smart Board will also be interactive, so the teacher can touch the board rather than use the mouse on his/her computer to click as needed.  It is also an asset that will allow students to display their work and use the interactive board to present projects in Power Point and similar software programs.
	1 Laser Jet Printer:  This printer is essential to the writing lab, so that the students and teacher can print their work from one device.  The Dell Workgroup Laser Printer 5310n has the capacity to handle the amount of print jobs that will be needed.
	1 24 port Switch:  The switch or "smart hub" is necessary to connect all of the computers and peripheral hardware with the appropriate ethernet cable to the network.  Unlike an ordinary hub, the switch will have the capability to send different information to different users at the same time.  This smart hub is more efficient and necessary due to the volume of computers that are accessing information simultaneously.
	1 Router:  The purpose of the router is to connect the network from the HUB to the Internet Service Provider.  Without the router, the computers can not access the internet.
	500ft.Ethernet Cable:  This cable will be housed in PVC pipes behind the computers that will run the perimeter of the room.  The cable will provide the connection for the computers and peripheral hardware to the HUB.
	150ft.PVC Pipe:  This will provide the housing and protection for the ethernet cable running behind the computers.
Editorsoftware	Editing Software:  This software is an added bonus for the English classroom.  It will assist the students with common editing errors, as well as enhance the teacher's editing lessons through independent exercises for students who are in need of extra practice.
Noodletools	Research Paper Writing Software:  This software can also enhance the students' learning.  The research paper writing process is always an area for improvement.  Students will have access to tools for understanding and writing research.  It will also be a valuable resource for citing sources and independent research.
	Firewall Software:  This software will provide protection from unwanted access to the network. It will examine all messages and block unwelcome ones.
	Microsoft Office is already installed on the network and VTSD holds a site license.  Therefore, this essential software will not need to be purchased
	VTSD also has an Internet Service Provider, so access to the internet is also readily available.
