Questions for Teacher

W

How will you help students know where they are headed and why (e.g. major assignments, performance tasks, and the criteria by which the work will be judged?)

The overview of the page’s destination is available on the splash page. Goals are clearly outlined. Assignments are explained clearly and concisely. Rubrics are readily available from each page.

H

How will you hook the students through engaging and thought-provoking experiences (issues, oddities, problems,  and challenges); that point toward essential and unit questions, core ideas and performance tasks?

The hook is the exposure to an area of the world where 25% of the visitors attempting to summit the mountain perish. Students learn about ways to survive in a harsh environment. The journal is an outlet for creative writing.

E

What learning experiences will engage students in exploring the big ideas and essential and unit questions? What instruction is needed to equip students for the final performances?

Viewing actual footage from an exploration team will show students what really occurs on the mountain. All sections have available instructional pieces to introduce the area.

R

How will you cause students to reflect and rethink to dig deeper into the core ideas? How will you guide students in revising and refining their work based on feedback and self-assessment?

Teacher feedback and open-ended questions to answer help students in this area. Writing segments will follow the writing process. The PowerPoint will be reviewed once before final submission.

E

How will students exhibit their understanding through final performances and products? How will you guide them in self-evaluation to identify the strengths and weaknesses in their work and set future goals?

The group PowerPoint project is presented to the class. The journal section of the final project is submitted individually. Rubrics are provided to show students the items needed for successful completion of each section.
