In the world there is always two sides to every story.  This also holds true in the world of sports.  While sports are a source of entertainment and recreation, there is also a wide market for debate on topics within each sport.  New technologies are introduced all the time, making different sources for debate.

Should football players use pine tar  on their hands to help hold the ball?  Why can't athletes use steroids?  Why can't golfers use any kind of club they want?  What's the big deal about a pitcher scuffing a ball?  Do hockey players really need to wear helmets?  Should head restraints be mandatory or optional in auto racing?  Should women be allowed to play on the men's golf team if they make the cut?  Should men be allowed to play on the women's golf team if they make the cut?

In this activity, we will be exploring both sides of a select number of sports controversies.  Your group will take one side of the assigned controversy, research the facts and participate in a debate with the opposing debate group.

While needing to be able to prove your point, make sure that you are able to defend any argument against you.  That means that you have to research your topic thoroughly.
