Process Task One

Your first task will be to help an animal persuade the Zookeeper to take the animal back to into the zoo.  To do this you will need to research and find an animal of interest to see if they belong in the Bronx Zoo.  Then you will need to find out two facts about the animal that will help defend the animals right of being at the zoo.  During the week you will learn and use PowerPoint.  You will use this program to complete a slide show which will persuade the Zookeeper to take your animal back.  Your slide show should include: 1) the name of the animal; 2) a picture of the animal; 3) and two reasons why the animal is important to the zoo and should be allowed to return.  You will go to this resource to find an animal that lives at the zoo: http://www.bronxzoo.com/  You can click on the hyperlink to the Bronx Zoo.  Then you can go to this resource to find out more information about the animal: http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/   This is a website you may use for free clipart. http://classroomclipart.com/

Process Task Two

For the second task your team will be assigned a habitat.  Teams will be assigned one of the following habitats: Deserts, Mountains, Forest, Prairie/Grasslands, & Wetland.  You will choose an animal that lives in this habitat and also lives at the Bronx Zoo.  You will need to research what environment your animal originate from.  Your team needs to construct a life-like recreation of your animals' habitat by first researching your animal at the Bronx Zoo website.

Before designing your diorama, your team needs to answer these questions:

1.) What is the weather like in your habitat?  Is it hot?  Dry?  Rainy?

2.) What do the animals who live in your habitat eat?

3.) What does your habitat look like?  Does it have lots of trees?  Is it grassland?  Is it a damp or wet area?

You will be using a box and art materials to create this habitat in the classroom.  Teams will need to come up with a list of materials needed to create your assigned habitat.  We will display our dioramas when completed.  You can make drawings, use clipart, or perhaps bring models of animals to use in your diorama.  Your background should show what kind of habitat the animal lives in.  You can also show what the animal eats and the type of plant life that lives in the habitat.

Again you can use the Bronx Zoo website: http://www.bronxzoo.com/
