Goals and Objectives This Webquest is a unit of study on animals and their habitats. This Webquest will also prepare students for a field trip to a local zoo. The tasks require the students to learn about animals from various habitats through research, multimedia presentation, and a diorama. This Webquest is designed for a 2nd grade class studying animals and their environment. The students viewed videos in order to identify various aspects of animals and their habitats. Students also need some background in PowerPoint. Timeline This unit is taught throughout the course of three weeks. This is based on a forty minute science period four times a week. Students will work in their cooperative learning teams.
N.J.C.C.C.S Science STANDARD 5.1 (Scientific Processes) All students will develop problem-solving, decision-making and inquiry skills, reflected by formulating usable questions and hypotheses, planning experiments, conducting systematic observations, interpreting and analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and communicating results. STANDARD 5.4 (Nature and Process of Technology) All students will understand the interrelationships between science and technology and develop a conceptual understanding of the nature and process of technology. STANDARD 5.5 (Characteristics of Life) All students will gain an understanding of the structure, characteristics, and basic needs of organisms and will investigate the diversity of life.
Social Studies STANDARD 6.6 (Geography) All students will apply knowledge of spatial relationships and other geographic skills to understand human behavior in relation to the physical and cultural environment.
Language Arts Literacy STANDARD 3.2 (Writing) All students will write in clear, concise, organized language that varies in content and form for different audiences and purposes. STANDARD 3.4 (Listening) All students will listen actively to information from a variety of sources in a variety of situations. STANDARD 3.5 (Viewing and media literacy) All students will access, view, evaluate, and respond to print, nonprint, and electronic texts and resources.
Technology STANDARD 8.1 (Computer and information literacy ) All students will use computer applications to gather and organize information and to solve problems. STANDARD 8.2 (Technology Education) All students will develop an understanding of the nature and impact of technology, engineering, technological design, and the designed world as they relate to the individual, society, and the environment. Pedagogy The students has processed this information into long-term memory by using their five senses (environment). By studying animals and their habitat, the students incorporated screening for survival. The limbic system; thalamus (center of ops), hippocampus (cognitive), & amygdala (emotions) helped to students to connect and relate to the animals feelings of rejection. Multiple Intelligence The students integrated 5 (kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, & logical) MI's into this Webquest. Students used feelings to construct new ideas. Students focused on concrete practical information. The students absorbed information about the animals and then applied cognitive thinking skills to evaluate the animals situation. As a result of this, their learning was a personal, individualized act of thought and feeling.
