Goals and Objectives

The goal of this proposed project is to increase student knowledge of United States history by studying our coin system. It is designed for third grade students, but can be adapted for lower and upper grades. With today's technology, students have the opportunity to learn in many different ways as described in the introduction. This WebQuest will allow them to branch out in many of these creative directions.

After completing this project, students will be able to:

1. recognize the importance of the United States coin system
2. identify and develop an understanding of the steps in the making of a coin
3. learn the history of United States coins
4. recognize and distinguish the similarities and differences among present-day United States coins
5. identify coins no longer in circulation and coins planned for the future
6. successfully use the Internet and other resources to research and complete the project
7. work cooperatively in groups to gather information, then design a new coin based on acquired knowledge
8. work cooperatively to create a persuasive brochure describing the new coin
9. orally present the completed coin proposal for judging
