Your teacher will assign you to a team consisting of 3 talent scouts. Your team will select an artist from the Artists page. You will be responsible for collecting information using the links provided for your artist (links are on Artists page).

Please click on one of the topics below that you would like to research concerning the artist selected by your team. Remember, your team will present all of their research in a PowerPoint slideshow or on a concept map in Inspiration to a panel of judges. You will utilize your prior knowledge of PowerPoint and Inspiration presentations for this portion of the WebQuest.

Style | Photogenic Appeal | Biography | The Mask

 

Style - An artist's characteristic manner of expression. Also, works of art by different artists may have certain features in common. Such works are said to have a group style or to be from the same art movement (Art Lex Art Dictionary).

1) What is the "style" or art movement of your artist?

2) Describe the major characteristics of this style - name some typical subjects.

3) During what years was this style started and approximately how long did it last?

4) In what country or countries was it started?

5) Please name at least 2 additional artists who painted in the same style as your artist.

6) Did this art style reflect the culture and technology of the time? Please describe.

7) Name at least 3 major paintings by your artist that illustrate this style.

8) Share your opinion about your artist's style. What makes it unique - does it appeal to most people - why or why not?

Photogenic Appeal-

The winning artist will be featured on the covers of top magazines - this individual must look super in a photo!

Please refer to a self-portrait of your artist when answering these questions:

1) Please describe the natural beauty of your artist - don't forget to mention the title and the year of your artist's self-portrait.

2) Does your artist project their warmth and personality in this self-portrait? Please describe.

3) What kind of mood does the artist portray?

4) Is the composition unique and interesting? Please describe.

5) What type of audience would be most responsive to your artist?

6) What kind of product/products would your artist be most likely to represent for a client and why?

7) How would you improve upon your artist's appearance if you were hired as his/her stylist?

8) Please promote your client based on his/her self-portrait - what do think are your artist's best features and strongest points?

Biography-

The life of your artist will be of great interest to the judges. It is important that the winning artist is a person of good character and judgment. Please take this opportunity to tell us the story of your artist's life and works.

2) Please describe the early life of your artist - include information about his/her family and influences.

3) How did your artist decide to become an "artist?" Please describe his/her work - style, media, favorite subjects.

4) What is the most significant accomplishment of your artist? What lasting effects has your artist had the world?

5) How has your artist inspired you?

6) Please share any other noteworthy facts and information about your artist.

7) Is your artist a person of good judgment and character? Please provide specific examples.

The Mask

Your team will create a mask of your artist. Please click here for the Mask Directions. The mask will reflect the image of your artist and an artwork of your artist. Feel free to be very imaginative - share your ideas with your team.

One person from your team will walk down the runway wearing the mask, while the other members will introduce and share some background information about your artist to judges.

You may enhance your presentation by including period clothing, make-up, and music as your artist walks down the runway!
