Tom, John and Bob were thinking and talking about today lesson in Mr. Smith's history class. Mr. Smith's lecture was about all the people who lost their lives over the idea of nationalism. Mr. Smith gave some examples of conflict in a number of countries or places: The PLO and Israel, Iraq and Iran, Sarajevo, Slovakia and Yugoslavia. All of these countries are link to nationalistic wars. John and Bob were arguing about the formation of the state of Israel. Tom was listening and thinking about the problem of nationalism and the wars that it started. Tom asked aloud, what if we could go back to the beginning and stop the problems from happening? Well they can't but you can! The year is 1815 and Napoleon has been defeated for the second time. He now resides on the island of St. Helena in the middle of the South Atlantic. The time has come for the major nations of Europe to come together and figure out a plan for the future of Europe. The major countries involved include Prussia, Austria, Russia, Great Britain, and the defeated France. Historically, the Congress of Vienna in 1815 redrew the map of Europe and led to the rise of conservatism, nationalism and revolution in Europe for years to come. As representatives of your countries, it is up to you to decide the fate of Europe for the next two hundreds years.
